LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction Treatment

Liposuction Surgery is also known as liposculpture. It involves eliminating unwanted fat from the body by also making it look more appealing and aesthetically attractive.

It is often considered the last resort because we can lose excess fat from our bodies through exercise. However, if our body is shaped in a way from birth, there isn't much we can do about it. For example, men boobs is a condition that occurs due to different factors. Exercise is not a solution to it and in such cases, liposuction is the best way to get rid of excess fat from the chest area while making it more appealing.

The treatments is not considered a weight-loss method or an alternative to workouts. It is a surgical procedure and it uses a suction technique to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and neck. Moreover, if you are overweight and exercising is not a lot of help, then your best bet would be to go for a bariatric procedure — such as gastric bypass surgery — and not liposuction.

How does Liposuction work?

The process involves the removal of excess fat from under the skin through small incisions. For example, when liposuction of the lower abdomen is done, the excess fat of the lower abdomen is coupled with the excess fat of the upper abdomen. The patient has to stay in the hospital for three nights.

It also removes extra body fat and improves the overall outline of your body, bringing a new charisma to your life.

Areas where liposuction can be used to remove excess fat from the body include:

  • Abdomen
  • Upper arms
  • Buttocks
  • Calves and ankles
  • Chest and back
  • Hips and thighs
  • Chin and neck

Moreover, the treatment can also help with breast reduction, chest improvement, and treating gynecomastia.

When we get overweight, our body cells increase in volume. This is where liposuction comes to help. It reduces fat cells in a specific area in our body so that we can get back the appearance that we had lost due to excessive fat. Changes made through this treatment are generally permanent unless you start eating excess food again, which can again change the shape of the body.

Liposuction changes the skin tone. After the treatment, you will get molds on the treated areas. If your skin is rich and healthy, it will appear smooth. However, if your skin is poor and less flexible, the skin can appear loose.

One thing to note here is that liposuction is a fat removal method and not a skin conditioning method. So, if your skin has stretch marks or dimplings that you would like to fill, this treatment is not the right method to do that. It won’t remove stretch marks, scars, cellulite dimples, or any other skin irregularities on your skin.

How to Know if You are Ready for Liposuction?

An ideal candidate for liposuction should be of ideal age and health. They shouldn’t have any heart diseases and conditions that can complicate the surgery. These may include irregular blood flow, blockage of arteries, or weak immune system.

You need to get an appointment with a surgeon to find out if you really need liposuction treatment. In most cases, you won’t even need the liposuction treatment because exercise and dieting is enough.

However, if you have too much body fat in specific spots and other parts are stable, then liposuction would be the right way to get rid of that fat.

How to prepare for Liposuction?

A few ways you can prepare includes:

Food and medications

Your surgeon will check your medical history and see if you have any previous allergies, operations, and other complications. These are done to make sure that you are in good health for the procedure.

Your surgeon will also ask you to stop taking any medications prior to the liposuction procedure. If you are taking blood thinners or NSAIDs, you should stop at least three weeks prior to surgery. Your lab tests will be able to verify this.

The surgeon may also ask you to take other foods and fruits that you should take before and during the surgery.

Other precautions for Liposuction Procedure

The surgeon may also tell you about what precautionary measures you need to take. For example, if the surgery is to remove a small amount of fat, then it can be performed in an office setting. On the other hand, if the surgery takes more time, then you will have to stay at the hospital overnight. So, you may have to arrange for someone to drive you home after the liposuction procedure.

The time of the liposuction procedure usually depends on the amount of fat that you need to want to be removed. At the end of the procedure, the skin will be either stitched or left opened to heal by itself. If the cuts are small, a simple bandage will be enough to cover it.

Post-Liposuction Surgery

Recovery from liposuction surgery is easy and fast, but there can be some after-effects. You need to keep these in mind when thinking of liposuction. Swelling and discomfort are some of the conditions that can occur. Bruises and scars on the body can also become frequent post liposuction surgery.

You may be provided a compression garment to help minimize the side effects and to assist with retraction of loose skin.

One more thing to note here is that post-liposuction, the final shape takes time to appear. So, you may not know how your body will look like on day one after the surgery.
