Benefits of Eyelid Surgery

eyelid surgery

A blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) rejuvenates the upper and lower eyelids by reducing excess saggy skin and eliminating bagging, wrinkles and dark circles on the lower eyelid. So in general, it is the plastic surgery operation for correcting defects, deformities, and disfigurations of the eyelids; and for aesthetically modifying the eye region of the face.

Although it is almost always an aesthetically focused approach for the lower eyelid, upper eyelid problems make you look old, as well as severe skin sagging around your eyes and side alignment with pressure from the top, making you feel tired / sleepy all the time; especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision. Eyelid surgery can reduce or eliminate these vision problems. Additionally, your eyes will have a younger and more vibrant appearance, and even though you are not tired, it reduces the criticism you receive in this regard; even further, it allows you to have a better field of vision than before.

How is Blepharoplasty Performed?

If your upper and lower eyelids are to be treated at the same time, the doctor usually starts from the upper eyelid first. They open the fold of your eyelid and excises or reshapes the excess skin, muscle and fat as necessary.

In your lower eyelid, they make an incision just under your eyelashes, the fold of the eye itself or the inside of the lower lid. Then they remove or redistribute excess fat, muscle or sagging skin.

If your upper eyelid is sagging downwards and blocks your pupil, your doctor can perform your blepharoplasty surgery together with a procedure called ptosis. This process provides additional support to your existing eye opening and eyebrow muscles.

The Benefits of Blepharoplasty

Many people state that they are satisfied with the results of blepharoplasty, which provides a younger and more self-confident appearance. For most of our patients, the results of the surgery continue for their entire lives. Some may sag again after 10 years. Blisters and bruises usually disappear within 10-14 days. It takes at least 3 weeks for clear results to appear.

Here are some main benefits of blepharoplasty:

  • Reduced Under Eye Bags
  • Expanded Line of Sight for Improved Vision
  • Enhanced Eye Shape for a Refreshed Appearance
  • Reduced Skin Irritation from Excess Folds Rubbing Together
  • A More Youthful and Rested Appearance
  • Removal of Dark Under Eye Circles
  • Improvement in Lower Eyelid Hollowing
  • Reduced Forehead Discomfort from Muscle Straining by Lifting Sagging Skin in Eyelid Area
  • Fewer Fine Lines On Outer Corners & Lower Eyelids
  • Natural Appearance

Recovery Period

After the operation, a small amount of pain may occur in the patient due to the decrease in the effect of anesthesia. This can be relieved with the use of pain killers. However, the patient should definitely not touch and / or rub their eyes especially for 24 hours after the operation.

The plasters that do not block with the patient’s vision are removed by the doctor and / or their nurse four or five days after the operation. It is necessary to be careful while sleeping for three nights following the surgery and position the pillow at an angle of 30 to 40 degrees. The reason for this is to ensure that the bruises and swelling in the operation area can be kept under control.

In addition to the information given by the doctor, ice compresses should be applied to the eye for one or two days after the operation. In this way, the bruises and swelling can be prevented more easily and effectively.

Generally, these swelling and bruises will disappear within a week following surgery. Blood may occur in the eyes after the operation. This is perfectly normal and there is no need to be worried. Until the healing process of the eyelids is completed, it is recommended that the patient stay away from all activities that may force him to prevent swelling and bruises.
