What Kind of a Diet Should be followed after Rhinoplasty

There are some issues that patients should pay attention to after a nose job, which can be considered one of the most popular among the cosmetic operations performed today. Even if a successful rhinoplasty surgery has been performed, patients should follow the doctor’s recommendations and act in a way that supports this success. Nutrition is among these topics. In order for the result of rhinoplasty surgery performed for aesthetic or health purposes to fully reflect the patient’s wishes, there should be cooperation between the patient and the doctor.
There is no specific diet list for people who have had rhinoplasty. However, if patients pay attention to some issues regarding their diet, a faster recovery period can be passed.

First of all, fiber rich foods should be included in your diet in order not to be constipated. Because constipation can trigger nosebleeding in patients as it will make it harder to defecate. Since the wound site is still fresh, it is better not to take such a risk.
While eating, hot steam that will pass to the face should be avoided. For this reason, hot foods such as soup, fresh cooked meal, tea, milk should be avoided, which may cause heat contact and steam effect.

Actions such as sneezing and coughing should be avoided as much as possible after the surgery. Likewise, excessive chewing movements may adversely affect nasal contouring as the bones and tissues in the nose will be in the recovery phase. Therefore, it means that foods such as chewing gum, steak and nuts should be avoided for a while.

Consumption of foods containing protein and foods containing vitamin C is important. This is because such foods have positive effects on wound healing. For this, foods containing protein such as meat, fish, white meat, eggs, and foods containing vitamin C such as oranges, strawberries, lemon, tangerine, and kiwi should be consumed in certain proportions.

In addition, tobacco products containing nicotine such as cigarettes, cigars and hookah should be avoided. Because nicotine adversely affects healthy blood circulation in human body and will negatively affect the results of a successful rhinoplasty surgery.
After a nose job, there will be effects such as bruising, edema and swelling for a certain period of time. For this reason, a salt-free diet should be made to help the edema go down in a shorter time. Salt should not be added to foods. Some salt will be taken from foods naturally. Consuming more salt will cause the edema to increase and take longer to pass. In the meantime, salt-free and fat-free products should be preferred in products such as cheese and olives.
Additionally, patients are advised to avoid fatty foods and to use methods such as boiling, grilling, steaming and baking instead of frying in order to maintain their general health. The better the body resistance, the better the patients’ quality of life during the recovery period.

Providing the necessary fluid support for the body as required is also very important. 2.5-3 liters of water should be drunk a day, and herbal teas should be preferred if necessary.
In order to avoid gas and bloating problems after surgery, foods such as gas-producing legumes, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, onion, milk, and melon should not be consumed as much as possible.
Patients are recommended to stay away from mineral waters, which also have edematous ingredients. Because the sodium content of mineral water is high. Drinking these will increase the problem of edema.
